The Tallis Scholars vocal group will sing the winning entry of the
NCEM Composers Award during the opening concert of the festival,
which will take place in York Minster.
Launched in partnership with BBC Radio 3, the award invites
composers up to the age of 25 to write a song arranged for soprano,
alto, tenor and bass that lasts between three and four minutes. As
the award is intended as an educational project, preference will be
given to non-professionals.
'It is a huge privilege to be working with BBC Radio 3 and the
Tallis Scholars on this National Award,' said NCEM director
Delma Tomlin.
'The partnership will really help to develop young talent and
will give the winners the amazing chance to listen to some of the
best singers in the world perform their pieces in one of the most
magnificent cathedrals in the world,' she added.
